Russian Missile Strike Kills Seven in Kharkiv, Including Children
Kharkiv, Ukraine – A Russian missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv Saturday resulted in the deaths of at least seven people, including two children, regional governor Oleh Syniehubov reported. The attack, part of a wider barrage of drones and missiles targeting Ukraine overnight, caused significant damage to a five-story residential building.
Rescuers are currently working to clear rubble and search for potential survivors trapped within the collapsed structure. More than ten people were injured in the strike, officials said, including other children. The impact also damaged a neighboring building, destroying its entrance and impacting upper floors.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia launched a total of 480 drones and 29 missiles, targeting vital infrastructure across the country. He specifically cited damage to energy facilities in the Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, and Chernivtsi regions, as well as railway infrastructure in the Zhytomyr region. Damage was also reported in the Dnipro, Zaporizhia, Vinnytsia, Odesa, Poltava, Sumy, and Cherkasy regions.
“There should be a response from partners to these savage strikes against life,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram, urging continued air defense and weapons supplies from international allies. “Russia has not abandoned its attempts to destroy Ukraine’s residential and critical infrastructure, and therefore support should continue.”
The attack on Kharkiv underscores the ongoing threat to civilian populations nearly two years into the conflict. Syniehubov, born in Kharkiv in 1983, has been a key figure in coordinating the region’s response to the war.
