Jubilee : Remaniement de la direction en vue des élections de 2027

Kenya’s Jubilee Party Overhauls Leadership Ahead of 2027 Elections

Nairobi, Kenya – Kenya’s Jubilee Party, a key player in the nation’s political landscape, has announced a significant restructuring of its leadership team as it gears up for the August 2027 General Election. The changes, endorsed during a National Executive Council meeting chaired by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, signal a determined effort to revitalize the party following its performance in the 2022 polls.

The move comes amid growing public concern over the direction of the country, and reflects lessons learned from the previous electoral cycle. Jubilee officials emphasized the need for a “comprehensive revitalization” of party structures at both the national and grassroots levels.

Jeremiah Kioni, previously the party’s Secretary General, has been elevated to the position of Deputy Party Leader in a key leadership transition. Moitalel Ole Kenta, a former Member of Parliament for Narok North who served two consecutive terms between 2013 and 2022, will succeed Kioni as Secretary General. The party lauded Ole Kenta as a “seasoned politician and a fearless advocate for social justice, equity and inclusive development.”

Further appointments include Vincent Kemosi, a former MP for West Mugirango and an advocate of the High Court, as National Chairperson. Jubilee highlighted Kemosi’s legal expertise and extensive grassroots engagement as crucial assets for strengthening the party. Businessman Yassin Noor has been named Organising Secretary, bringing experience gained through service in various state institutions.

Kembi Gitura, a former MP and Senator, will serve as Director of Elections, leveraging his extensive experience in politics, public administration, and institutional governance, including diplomatic roles. Zack Kinuthia, a former Education Chief Administrative Secretary, has been appointed Deputy Secretary General, representing a younger voice within the leadership.

At the county level, Paul Kados, a Nairobi MCA and Deputy Speaker, has been appointed National Chairperson of the MCA’s Caucus, capitalizing on his nearly two decades of experience in local government and strong community networks.

The National Secretariat will be led by Dann Mwangi, an advocate who is also vying for the Molo parliamentary seat. Mwangi previously served as a political and legal advisor in the Executive Office of the President, held directorships in state corporations, and was Chief Executive Officer of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) – a significant, though ultimately unsuccessful, attempt at constitutional reform.

The appointments reflect Jubilee’s ambition to broaden its appeal and strengthen its organizational capacity. Kenya’s political landscape is increasingly competitive, with a growing youth population and a heightened focus on economic issues. According to data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, over 75% of Kenya’s population is under the age of 35, making youth engagement a critical factor in electoral success.

Jubilee officials have challenged the new leadership team to “hit the ground running,” focusing on aggressive membership recruitment and sustained grassroots mobilization. The party also emphasized the importance of remaining “inclusive, consultative, and responsive to the aspirations of the party members and the Kenyan people.”

The restructuring is being closely watched by political analysts as a potential indicator of Jubilee’s strategy for the 2027 elections. The party, which previously formed the backbone of the ruling coalition, will be looking to regain lost ground and reassert its influence in Kenyan politics.
