Former Porn Star Turned Pastor Urges Men to Break Silence, Reclaim Leadership

LYNCHBURG, Virginia – Joshua Broome, a former adult film star who found faith and now serves as a pastor, is on a mission to encourage men to actively engage in their faith, families, and culture. Broome believes that societal silence among men is a key tactic used to undermine their influence and spiritual growth.

“If Satan can’t rob you of your salvation, he’ll settle for your silence,” Broome recently told the hosts of “The Bible Bros Podcast With Billy and Dalton.” “And if he can make a man silent, then that’s… the second biggest victory that he could win.”

Broome’s message resonated with thousands this weekend at the Ignite Men’s Impact Weekend, held at Thomas Road Baptist Church on the campus of Liberty University. The event, which drew approximately 7,000 men, featured workshops, speakers, and activities designed to strengthen faith and foster community.

Ignite Men’s Impact Weekend, now in its 30th year, offered a diverse program, including sessions led by spiritual leaders like Tim Timberlake, Jon Gordon, and Rhett Walker, alongside more unconventional activities like axe throwing. The event aimed to reach men from all walks of life, from sports enthusiasts to those who enjoy the outdoors.

Broome emphasized the importance of men taking ownership of their roles as leaders within their homes and communities. “You’re not leading yourself if you’re not leading your family, if you’re not speaking into culture,” he stated. He argues that a lack of vocal engagement allows harmful ideologies to take root. “What we don’t say says something very loudly,” he explained, “and when people are proclaiming their agendas… there’s no pushback against that… we’re being indoctrinated by something.”

The core objective of Ignite, according to Broome, is to share the Gospel, connect attendees with local churches, and provide resources for spiritual discipleship. He hopes to help men overcome personal struggles, such as pornography addiction or feelings of cultural passivity, and guide them toward fulfilling their God-given potential.

Broome’s own journey from the adult film industry to the pulpit serves as a powerful testament to the transformative power of faith. He regularly shares his story through speaking engagements and social media, inspiring others to pursue a life of purpose and meaning.
