Israël-Iran : Netanyahu promet une offensive continue et un changement de régime imminent

US-Israeli Campaign Against Iran Intensifies, Raising Fears of Wider Regional Conflict

The US-Israeli bombing campaign in Iran is escalating, with both nations signaling a willingness to continue strikes despite retaliatory missile fire from Tehran and escalating tensions across the Middle East. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has openly called for regime change in Iran, stating that “the moment of truth is drawing near” for Iranians to overthrow their government.

The latest phase of the conflict saw Israel strike what it described as Iran’s “most central” ballistic missile sites, and, for the first time, oil infrastructure in Tehran. The Israeli military confirmed bombing several fuel depots, asserting they directly supported Iran’s military operations.

“We have an organized plan with many surprises” for the next phase, Netanyahu said in a televised address Saturday, aiming “to destabilize the regime, to enable change.”

The United States, under President Donald Trump, has taken a similarly hard line. Trump told reporters the war “will continue for a while longer,” pointing to the October 7, 2023, attacks by Hamas as evidence of the Iranian regime’s “evil.” He also claimed the US military had “knocked out” 42 Iranian navy ships and much of the Iranian air force in recent days.

Iran has responded with a barrage of missiles targeting Israel, causing no injuries but prompting widespread disruption. Missile fire from Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon has also increased, adding another layer to the conflict. Retaliatory strikes have extended beyond Israel’s borders, with one person killed in a missile strike in Dubai, and attacks reported in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait.

The situation is further complicated by reports of internal divisions within the Iranian government. Israeli officials, according to Channel 12 news, believe there are “sharp disagreements” between President Masoud Pezeshkian and the Revolutionary Guards, as well as a lack of coordination among senior leaders. A successor to the recently deceased Ayatollah Ali Khamenei could be named as early as Sunday, with his son Mojtaba reportedly considered a front-runner despite being wounded in a recent strike.

While the stated goal of the campaign is to dismantle Iran’s ability to threaten the region, both Netanyahu and Trump have indicated a desire for regime change. Trump has even demanded a role in selecting Iran’s next leader.

The conflict has triggered widespread disruption to air travel across the region, with hundreds of thousands of passengers stranded. The US State Department reported that 28,000 US citizens have safely left the Middle East since the start of hostilities.

Netanyahu asserted that “many nations” are turning to Israel for cooperation, believing it to be a “beacon of power and hope.” He criticized the United Nations and Western leaders for what he called a lack of support for the Iranian people.
