The faces of teachers and staff of the Republic college express a mixture of fatigue and weariness. On strike for a week, there were fifteen on Monday on Monday to parade in the streets of Bobigny (Seine-Saint-Denis) to make their demands heard, especially in the academic management. The trigger for the movement: a succession of violent episodes in the establishment classified as a reinforced priority education network (REP +).

“We recently undergone jets of sticks and firecrackers on the gates at the entrance to the college. A person outside the establishment entered ten days ago in a class and threw a pebble into the room to threaten a teacher, ”says Gaëlle, education assistant.

“A pressure cooker”

These incidents especially revealed a deeper discomfort. “We undergo a form of discouragement, because we cannot help children as we would like. We need more human resources. 76 % of students come from disadvantaged families. For some, school is not a priority. This creates behavioral problems, homework is not done, ”says Sandrine, English teacher for 20 years at the Republic college.

“The Republic college is endowed beyond the departmental average in terms of means of supervision, or 20.5 jobs including 15 jobs of supervisors, when the departmental average is 10,” replies the academic direction.

College teachers are organizing a meeting this Tuesday at 6 p.m. on Tuesday with parents of students to decide on the continuation of the movement. Because two weeks before the patent, some adolescents are worried: “In the morning, we come to college, and we learn that we are not used … Suddenly, we go home while the examination approaches”, confides with concern Maryam, pupil in the third. “Me, personally I had to take a particular teacher. It is unacceptable, ”concludes another.
