Gazprom : Attaques ukrainiennes contre les pipelines TurkStream et Blue Stream

Drone Attacks Target Key Russian Gas Pipelines, Raising European Energy Security Concerns

KRASNODAR REGION, Russia – Infrastructure linked to the TurkStream and Blue Stream pipelines, vital routes for Russian gas exports to Turkey and southeastern Europe, has been repeatedly targeted by drone attacks over the past two weeks, according to Russian state-controlled energy giant Gazprom. The attacks, which Moscow alleges are Ukrainian-led attempts to disrupt energy supplies, have prompted alarm within the Kremlin and raised concerns about European energy security.

Gazprom reported Wednesday that facilities in the Krasnodar region, including the Russkaya, Beregovaya, and Kazachya compressor stations, were hit in recent days. While the company claims all attacks were repelled and infrastructure continues to operate, the incidents underscore the vulnerability of critical energy infrastructure amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Russia’s Defense Ministry stated it downed 24 drones targeting the Russkaya and Beregovaya stations overnight, alleging the attacks aimed to halt gas deliveries to European consumers.

The TurkStream and Blue Stream pipelines represent some of the few remaining conduits for Russian pipeline gas reaching Europe following the curtailment of other routes after the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the attacks as “very alarming,” adding that Russia had previously warned Turkey about potential sabotage. “The significance of these routes is difficult to overestimate in terms of the continent’s energy security,” Peskov said, particularly given current disruptions in global energy markets linked to tensions involving Iran.

President Vladimir Putin stated in February that Russia possessed “operational information” suggesting Ukraine was planning to sabotage the pipelines. He framed the alleged Ukrainian actions as an attempt to derail diplomatic efforts to end the war.

The incidents come as global energy markets are already strained by increased oil and gas prices following recent attacks in the Middle East. Putin on Monday reiterated Russia’s willingness to supply oil and gas to European buyers, cautioning that a potential blockade of the Strait of Hormuz could severely impact Middle Eastern oil production and trigger economic instability in Europe.

Ukrainian officials have yet to comment on Gazprom’s claims.
