Youth Feminism Declines in Spain, Reaching Lowest Level Since 2021

Madrid – The percentage of young people in Spain identifying as feminist has fallen to 38.4%, marking the lowest point since 2021, according to a recent study by Fad Juventud. This represents a significant drop from a high of 49.9% recorded in 2021, and a decrease from 42% in 2023, El Mundo reported Tuesday.

The decline signals a shift in sentiment among Spanish youth regarding feminist ideals. While support for feminism generally increases with age, peaking at 52.2% among those aged 30-39, the current figures highlight a growing disconnect among younger demographics.

The study indicates a complex landscape, with nearly half of young people (49.2%) acknowledging the existence of gender inequality despite the decreasing self-identification as feminist.

This trend follows a broader pattern observed in recent years. In 2017, 34.6% of young people identified as feminist, rising to the 2021 peak before the recent downturn. The data suggests a fluctuating level of engagement with feminist discourse among Spanish youth.
