New Fee to Access Australia’s Iconic Twelve Apostles

GREAT OCEAN ROAD, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA – Visitors to the Twelve Apostles, one of Australia’s most recognizable natural landmarks, will soon be required to pay an entry fee, authorities announced Monday. The fee will grant access to the newly completed Visitor Experience Centre, part of a $126 million redevelopment of the coastal precinct.

The move, announced by Victorian environment minister Steve Dimopoulos, aims to enhance the visitor experience while contributing to the ongoing preservation of the delicate coastal environment. The Twelve Apostles, located along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, draw both international and domestic tourists eager to witness the dramatic limestone stacks rising from the Southern Ocean.

The redevelopment, completed in February, includes improved viewing platforms, walking trails, and interpretive displays within the Visitor Experience Centre. While specific fee amounts haven’t been disclosed, the charge applies to all visitors accessing the centre.

The decision comes as tourism continues to rebound globally, and as Australia seeks to balance access to its natural wonders with the need for sustainable tourism practices. The new fee is expected to contribute to the long-term maintenance and protection of the Twelve Apostles and surrounding area.
