Buffalo, New York – Le Canada et les États-Unis s’affronteront samedi 31 mai au LECOM Harborcenter de Buffalo, dans un duel au sommet pour la médaille d’or du Championnat Mondial de Para Hockey sur Glace 2025. Cette rencontre marquera la huitième fois que ces deux rivaux nord-américains se disputeront le titre en finale du groupe A.Le Canada,champion en titre,vise un sixième titre mondial,égalant ainsi le record des États-Unis.

• Canada : A validé sa place en finale grâce à une victoire convaincante de 3-0 contre la Tchéquie.
• États-Unis : A dominé la Chine avec un score de 6-1, assurant ainsi sa participation à la finale.

Réactions D’après-Match

Tyler McGregor,capitaine de l’équipe canadienne,a souligné l’importance de la victoire contre la Tchéquie : That was the perfect test our team needed. Son entraîneur, Russ Herrington, a ajouté : We knew Czechia would be a real tough test for us. They play very stingy defensively, they like to play a physical game, and they have a good goaltender.

Le Canada a pris un excellent départ, marquant deux fois dans la première moitié de la première période grâce aux contributions de Liam Hickey et Adam Dixon. Herrington a commenté : It was vital for us to try and get a goal early, get a couple, which we did, and like most teams we play a little more relaxed and a little better with the lead.

McGregor a insisté sur l’unité et la résilience de son équipe : That is our brand of hockey. Right from the first face-off, we got our forecheck established, it was physical, and that’s how we created our offense. And so, it was a perfect test for us. They played us really well, they defended well, and their goalie made stops when he needed to. Il a ajouté : We’ve spent the past three years with pretty much the same nucleus, the same team, preparing relentlessly. And that starts with our management staff, our coaching staff and all the players in that room. Everybody [is] aligned on who we are, [and] the work ethic that’s required to be who we want to be.

Il a ajouté : Just really trying to identify threats and minimize those threats. Maybe [we] got off to a little bit of a slow start offensively but I just liked the game throughout, I thought it was a good solid effort.

nichols a également souligné l’importance du soutien du public : It’s nice to have all this support out here. We’re on home ice in Buffalo for the first time in a while, so it’s great to have all these friends and family come out and support us. It makes the game a lot more worth it.

Hoff a conclu : I think it’s just the excitement for our guys.You know, you can play a lot of games throughout the season, but you don’t have a chance to have family here. So there’s that excitement of just having family around. We love the crowd side of it too, because it was nice to have a really pro-USA crowd with us tonight. I just think the biggest thing is for these guys the chance to really perform in front of family and friends, I think it’s a great prospect for each of them that way.

Match Pour La Médaille De Bronze : Tchéquie Contre Chine

Malgré leur déception, la Tchéquie et la Chine se battront pour la médaille de bronze. L’entraîneur tchèque Jakub Novotny a déclaré : They [the players] know they are playing for a medal. Tomorrow [Saturday]before the game, they will be ready to play for that medal, because it’s another game, it’s another possibility to win and we want to take it. La Tchéquie a remporté les deux dernières confrontations pour le bronze contre la Chine aux Championnats Mondiaux de Para Hockey sur Glace en 2023 et 2024.

Dans le match pour la septième place, la Corée a battu la Norvège 2-1. Les deux équipes participeront aux Mondiaux du groupe B l’année prochaine, mais auront toujours une chance de se qualifier pour les Jeux Paralympiques d’hiver de Milan Cortina 2026 via le tournoi de qualification plus tard cette année.
