Bboxx, ImpactHER Equip Nigerian Women for Renewable Energy Sector
LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) – In a move aligned with this year’s International Women’s Day theme of “Give to Gain,” Bboxx, a clean energy provider operating across Africa, has partnered with ImpactHER to provide training for female entrepreneurs in Nigeria’s burgeoning renewable energy sector. The initiative aims to bolster women’s participation in the industry, recognizing their crucial role in community development and economic growth.
The multi-track program, launched during Women’s Month, focuses on three key areas: building a financial mindset for business, an introduction to establishing a solar enterprise, and hands-on training in solar installation. Participants are being equipped to enter the clean energy value chain as entrepreneurs, agents, and skilled technicians.
“Women are extremely important to the health and growth of any society,” said Ene Adesanya, Managing Director of Bboxx Nigeria. “Across our markets, we have consistently seen that women are among the most reliable agents and entrepreneurs. Empowering them with the right knowledge and skills ultimately strengthens families, businesses, and entire communities.”
Bboxx’s operational data across its markets supports this assertion, highlighting women as particularly effective agents – a finding that underscores the strategic value of gender-focused investment. The company launched its Nigerian operations in October 2021, seeking to address the country’s significant electrification challenges.
Nigeria faces a substantial energy access gap, with approximately 90 million citizens lacking reliable electricity, according to recent data. Bboxx Nigeria is leveraging a $300 million fund backed by the World Bank to expand access to solar power across the nation.
ImpactHER, a non-profit dedicated to empowering African female entrepreneurs, contributes to the program by providing training, market access, digital tools, and financial opportunities. The collaboration aims to bridge the gender gap in business and create pathways for women to thrive in high-growth sectors.
The initiative reflects a broader commitment to inclusive participation in the renewable energy transition, with both organizations believing that sustainable development must prioritize women’s empowerment. Bboxx continues to expand its mission of delivering clean energy access and fostering economic resilience in Nigeria and throughout Africa.
