Drone Attack Targets U.S. Embassy in Riyadh
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh was targeted by a drone attack Tuesday, the Saudi Ministry of Defense announced. According to a statement released by ministry spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki, two drones were used in the attack.
Initial assessments indicate the attack caused a limited fire and minor material damage to the embassy building.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense has not yet attributed responsibility for the attack. However, Tihama24 reported the Saudi Ministry of Defense believes the attack originated from Iran.
The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh has a long history in the Kingdom, beginning as a legation in Jeddah in 1943 and evolving to its current location in 1952. The embassy plays a key role in the diplomatic relationship between the United States and Saudi Arabia.
