Shooting at New Mexico Air Force Base Leaves One Dead, Another Injured
ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (AP) – A shooting at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico on Tuesday evening left one person dead and another wounded, military officials confirmed. The incident occurred near the base’s convenience store, prompting a temporary lockdown.
Authorities reported the lockdown began around 5:30 PM local time as emergency personnel responded to reports of an active shooter. Officials later stated there was no longer a threat. The injured individual received medical treatment.
The identities of those involved have not been released. The convenience store will remain closed until further notice, according to a Facebook post from the base.
Holloman Air Force Base, located six miles southwest of Alamogordo, covers approximately 93 square miles and is home to the 49th Wing. The wing conducts national security missions and comprises combat-ready airmen and guardians.
This shooting is the latest in a series of violent incidents at U.S. military facilities. In February 2025, a shooting at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, resulted in one airman’s death and another injury following a pursuit that began off-base. Last year, a sergeant at Fort Stewart, Georgia, injured five soldiers in a shooting.
The incident is under investigation.
