Russian Strikes Kill Dozens in Ukraine, Kharkiv Hit Hardest
Kharkiv, Ukraine – A barrage of Russian missiles and drones struck Ukraine overnight, killing at least 12 people and injuring dozens more, including children, Ukrainian officials reported Saturday. The attacks targeted cities across the country, with Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, bearing the brunt of the assault.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia launched 29 missiles and 480 drones, specifically targeting energy and railway infrastructure. In Kharkiv, a Russian ballistic missile strike leveled an apartment building, resulting in at least 10 confirmed fatalities.
“Since last night, the rubble of a residential building in Kharkiv is being cleared following a Russian ballistic missile strike,” Zelenskyy wrote on social media. Among the victims were two women and their two children, according to Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
The strikes prompted a nationwide air alert across Ukraine, as authorities scrambled to respond to the widespread attacks. Zelenskyy reiterated calls for increased military support from Ukraine’s allies, emphasizing that Russia “has not abandoned its attempts to destroy Ukraine’s residential and critical infrastructure.”
Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed to have carried out a “massive high-precision strike” against military targets within Ukraine, a claim that routinely accompanies denials of targeting civilian areas. The Russian army also reported intercepting over 120 Ukrainian drones overnight.
Further south, in the occupied Kherson Oblast, authorities installed by Moscow reported one fatality and four injuries resulting from a Ukrainian drone strike.
The escalating attacks underscore the continued intensity of the conflict as it approaches its third year. The strikes come as international concern grows over the ongoing war and its impact on civilian populations.
