Iranian Missile Strike Kills At Least Nine in Beit Shemesh, Israel
BEIT SHEMESH, Israel – An Iranian missile strike on the Israeli city of Beit Shemesh Sunday resulted in the deaths of at least nine people, marking the deadliest single attack in Israel since the start of the ongoing conflict. First responders reported 28 others were injured in the direct hit on a residential building.
The Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service confirmed the fatalities, stating that its EMTs and paramedics pronounced nine deaths in the Beit Shemesh area.
Rescue personnel are still combing through the rubble, searching for potential survivors. An AFP photographer at the scene described teams working to extract bodies from the debris of the heavily damaged building. Witnesses reported seeing significant structural damage, smoke, and widespread chaos as casualties were evacuated.
“When I arrived, I saw a terrible scene,” said Yehuda Shlomo, an MDA paramedic, in a statement. “I saw heavy structural damage, smoke in the air, and a great deal of chaos, with dozens of frightened casualties emerging from damaged buildings.”
Photographs from the site show a house largely destroyed by the blast, reduced to mangled concrete and twisted metal.
The attack underscores the escalating tensions in the region and raises concerns about the potential for further escalation. This incident comes amid ongoing international efforts to de-escalate the conflict.
