“A biological man competed in the female finals of the State of California, winning great success, despite the fact that I had warned them not to do so,” the republican president on Monday on Tuesday on his social social network.
“As governor Gavin (Newsom) understands it perfectly, large-scale fines will be imposed !!!”, he added.
Ab Hernandez, 16, won two gold medals and one silver, and shared them with its competitors under new rules intended to end a controversy aroused by its participation in an athletics championship on Saturday in the city of Clovis, in the center of California.
Ab Hernandez crossed 1.70 meters the first time during the high jump test, and shared his first place with two other athletes – who each crossed the same height, but with a missed test.
There are all three of them on the first step of the podium according to the new rules set out in recent days by the California Inter-School Federation (CIF), in response to criticism on its policy which allows transgender athletes to compete.
The CIF first modified its regulations so that women, according to their biological gender, are not excluded from competitions due to the participation of transgender athletes.
She then enacted a new rule targeting the tests where Ab Hernandez had qualified: leap in high, long jump and triple jump – claiming that very young woman, according to her biological sex, who would have won a place given on the podium without the presence of the transgender athlete would also receive this medal.
These changes in the regulation intervened after days of controversy including a message on the social networks of President Trump who had threatened to deprive California of future federal funding if Hernandez was authorized to participate in the competitions in question.
The United States Ministry of Justice had also launched an investigation to find out if California had violated a law which prohibits gender discrimination in educational programs receiving federal subsidies.
Before the opening of the competition on Friday an aircraft had flew over the stadium, pulling a banner on which we read “no boys in women’s sport” in addition to the presence of a dozen demonstrators.
